Why Do We Catch Fish?

Posted by admin under: offtopic

As anglers, one of the biggest questions that we can answer is, why do we catch fish? Although there are a myriad of reasons why fish bite or don’t bite, there are a few important ones that every angler should be aware of. Hence the writing of this article. I’m going to explore some of the main reasons why fish bite or don’t bite, in the hopes that you can then use this information to your advantage as an angler.

A big reason why fish bite is odor. That is, the smells that is on the bait or lure. We’ve all seen the various scents that can be added to bait and lures to attract fish, right? Well for many species of fish (such as trout) the opposite is true as well. That is, if there are unnatural scents on the bait or lure, some fish are much less apt to bite. For example, gasoline residue from filling your vehicle with gas or the smell of smoke from smoking a cigarette can most certainly cost you bites.

The remedy for this problem is to pick up a handful of grass of dirt before fishing and rub it into your hands. This effectively cleanses your hands of any unnatural odors that might be present. The key is that this an answer to the question of why do we catch fish. Fish bite because they think our offering is a natural item, which means it should ’smell’ like natural item.

Another key to why we catch fish is Mother Nature. What do I mean by this? Simply that Mother Nature, and specifically the weather and moon, play a huge role in whether or not we catch fish. As anglers we need to understand how these two forces of Mother Nature affect fish behavior. Have you ever had one of those epic days fishing where it seemed like you could do no wrong? Like whatever you threw into the water resulted in fish being caught? This more than likely had to do with the you fishing at the perfect time, rather than anything else. You were fishing when the weather and moon were in your favor.

The weather and moon are a big reason why we catch fish and the more you understand this phenomenon the better off you’ll be. Another big reason why we catch fish is natural presentation. This is especially true when fishing with live worms. The best way to achieve a truly natural presentation is through the use of gang hooks. Gang hooks allow you to present live bait (and especially worms) in a natural and effective manner. This is another big reason why we catch or don’t catch fish.

Are these all of the reasons why we as anglers catch fish? No of course not, but these are some of the most popular. Not only are these the most popular, if you begin employing these tips, you will begin catching more fish. Knowing these reasons why fish bite, and then using that information to your advantage will make a big difference in your catch rates. How am I so sure of this? Because I’ve been using these tips to my advantage for more than 20 years and know how effective they are.

I catch fish for the challenge, like any sport that test the ability of ones limits. You never know exactly what your going to get even though you’ve got it all figured out it’s still up to the fish.
